IN addition to all said in mind-boggling Shift Happens video..there is now renowned visionary and computer scientist from MIT MediaLab Nicholas Negroponte, finally releasing to the World his One Laptop Per Child laptop.
Personal computing and online access becoming ubiquitous..means that the other +5 billion offline people will become netizens. This is the REAL shift.
It isn’t just Third World kids who will benefit now that Nicholas Negroponte’s venture is producing its $176 laptops. The machine’s innovations, such as Wi-Fi mesh networks and a power system that consumes 90 percent less electricity than standard laptops, will affect the rest of the industry.
And I love the design. I would call it Lappletop..since it reminds me of an apple (the fruit).

Btw, most of the software (even parts of OS) on the laptop is written in Python. The source code can easily be accessed and changed.
I wonder how many kids will become programmers because of this …
