Avenue Hotel - positioned in a residential area next to the lakes, the hotel is housed in a beautiful, classic building designed by the architect Emil Blichfeldt, who also designed Tivoli’s (Copenhagen world’s famous park) main entrance. Refurbished in 2005 by danish architect Mikael Mammen, the hotel features a timeless design with my favorite Bestlite lamps from the 30’s, light oak flooring, a super-sexy reception desk/bar and sandstone fireplace in a really comfy lounge (great pieces from design studio DesignByUs. Friendly and helpful staff, free wi-fi. Unfortunately, only 68 spacious rooms (book months in advance). Reasonable prices. Konjak is a nice bar/lounge around the corner.

San Rocco - Situated in a picturesque village in the northwestern part of the Istrian peninsula of Croatia, 5 km away from the Adriatic sea, the hotel San Rocco is a small boutique resort with a superb restaurant (best breakfast I ever had) and a heavenly garden with olive and figue trees. The hotel also features an elegant wine bar and a classy meeting room. Only 10 rooms, so book a few years in advance :)

Lloyd Hotel & Cultural Embassy - situated in an old monument, a little bit outside of Amsterdam in a newly refurbished area (great for walks or jogging), Lloyd is a unique concept of an open space for art, has one to five stars rooms (check out the 5 stars in the 6th floor) and good customer service. A really charming venue.
